STATE OF THE UNION THAT WASN'T

SIGNS OF THE TIMES – AMERICA'S DEVOLUTION

Every day I look for signs of our times -- America's national condition is critical. Yesterday, February 12, 2013, was a significant day. Indicators of decline ranged from the top of government to the low of societal human behavior. Do I like to note this, to write about it? No, but it's time to speak out and hopefully elicit some recognition in others who may, collectively, be able to reverse the significant decline in our great nation. At the same time, I've come to realize that more people than I've been willing to admit may want what is no doubt a decline in our culture. Some will ridicule this and some won't care. Here are my assessments of yesterday's indicators of devolution of society.

  1. Top of the list is President Obama's “State of The Union” speech that wasn't – had almost nothing to do with the state of the nation. It was simply another campaign speech, which all of his addresses are, irrespective of the title or the intended purpose or the expectations of many of us. He said nothing about our critical issues, those that are destroying traditional America and creating a society that will lower the standard of living for our progeny. He showed no interest in, or knowledge of, our structural economic problems and the unlikelihood that the economy can expand to provide jobs and incomes for taxes to fund his expensive programs. There is much more, but I will save it for a complete and real “State of the Union” piece. He said nothing about the near 50% who pay no taxes, many of whom overload the so-called safety net receiving benefits for no good reason -- having babies, e.g.
  1. The “state of the union” was more a theatrical event than an important national event to inform Americans of the reality of our national condition. Too many, perhaps most, of those in attendance behaved more like rock star worshipers than mature participants in government – protectors of America. Too many participants, even the Vice President, reacted sophomorish and worse jumping up like a jack-in-the-box at almost any statement by the President. The behavior of those in the receiving line as the president entered was worse than immature. Participants behaved as groupies, celebrity worshipers -- a charade. I saw NO STATESMANLIKE BEHAVIOR. None, even from the Chief Justice.
Then came Senator Marco Rubio's rebuttal, a very difficult job at best. Once again, as with
Governor Jindal's rebuttal a year ago, the set-up was not the best. In spite of that, Rubio
did a credible job, even very good in that his rebuttal was far more substantive and
definitive than the president's proclamations. But, Rubio had the audacity to get “dry-
mouth” and reached out of the plane of the camera for a BOTTLE OF WATER. WHAT
GREATER “SIN” OR INDISCRETION COULD HE HAVE COMMITTED –
ACCCORDING TO THE OBAMA-FAWNING MEDIA? Absolutely disgusting!! As
expected, all day today the media has been obsessed with Rubio's “water problem.” At
least one major newspaper headlined “RUBIO'S DRINKING PROBLEM.” How scurrilous!!!
Overall, what should have been an informative state event with statesman participating was anything but that.

Oh, and while this has nothing to do with the "state of the union"(that wasn't), there was yet another event that shows the shocking behavior of a segment of the population that will support, protect and defend a miscreant like Chris Dorner, a murderer, demonstrating on his behalf and even establishing FB pages to "lobby" for him. That may be trumped by the LAPD capitulating to his claims of racism and mistreatment in being fired and "re-opening" his trial. Some say it was a ploy....I say it is a sign of the times. He's a killer and that trumps all other traits and behavior...or should.

WOW, the media are still covering Rubio's reach for a water bottle. NBC and MSNBC are having a field day as I write this. Even a left-winger like Kirsten Powers is panning the media's actions. She calls them "juvenile" and less mature than 13-year olds. Holy smoke! Some media are questioning whether Rubio's drinking water was "a career ender." And, some assert that claims of media's bias in favor of Obama is "fantasy" and more. How delusional can they be?

Those of you who continue to claim there is no bias in the media, you must realize that you're foregoing claim to any credibility by keeping your heads in the sand....or worse.

Quite a frustrating two days for those who look for truth and substance in politics and in our society.
